Goal takes a look at the three players, who could come in to strengthen Milutin Sredojevic's side ahead of next season

The Soweto giants' season was boosted by July 2018 signings Ben Motshwari and Vincent Pule, who quickly adapted to the Micho Sredojevic's style before cementing their places in the team.

But who should come in to assist Pirates ahead of next season?

The Pirates goalkeeping department was a cause for concern until Wayne Sandilands stepped in to reclaim the No.1 jersey at the club.

Jackson Mabokgwane looks set to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June 2019, while Brilliant Khuzwayo is not yet at the level required by the technical team having recently recovered from a long-term injury.

Sandilands is in the twighlight of his career, while Siyabonga Mpontshane has struggled with consistency despite coming back stronger to feature heavily for the Sea Robbers.

SuperSport United vice-captain Ronwen Williams would be the perfect keeper for Pirates right now.

However, he will not come cheap as Matsatsantsa would not easily release him to any local club.

The 27-year-old is coming off a successful 2018/19 campaign which saw him scoop the Goalkeeper of the Season accolade at the PSL awards ceremony on Sunday.

Williams, who is also a South Africa international, has what it takes to be a reliable first-choice keeper for the Buccaneers.

Pirates had one of their best defences this past season, conceding just 24 from 30 league matches, thanks to Happy Jele's superb form.

The experienced defender was impressive for the Bucs defence and he was partnered with the likes Alfred Ndengane, Marshall Munetsi and Caio Marcelo as Sredojevic searched for a perfect partner.

If there is one player who would improve the Pirates defence, it's goal-scoring defender Thulani Hlatshwayo, who won the 2016/17 PSL Defender of the Season accolade.

The Bidvest Wits captain remains one of the best central defenders in the PSL having marshalled the Clever Boys defence which conceded 29 goals - a joint second best defensive record in the league.

Pirates lacked a reliable goalscorer last season, and Sredojevic admitted that they needed over 50 goals in order for his side to stand a better chance of winning the PSL title for the first time since 2012.

Justin Shonga was Bucs' first-choice striker, but he only managed six goals in the league, and the promising frontman was heavily criticized for missing clear-cut goalscoring chances.

It would be wise for the Buccaneers to open their cheque book and pursue Mamelodi Sundowns hitman Jeremy Brockie, who has endured a frustrating spell with the Tshwane giants due to limited game time.

The 2017 Caf Confederation Cup Golden Boot winner remains a proven goalscorer having netted three times in the Caf Champions League.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has already indicated that the club is open to parting ways with the New Zeland international as they are in the market for an out-and-out striker.

It's also public knowledge that several clubs are eyeing Brockie ahead of next season, and Pirates would have to move fast if they to sign Brockie.
