Here's what you need to know about when England manager Gareth Southgate will confirm his 26-man squad for the Euros this summer

England secured their spot at Euro 2020 after finishing the qualification stage with seven wins from eight games in group A, scoring 37 goals.

The Three Lions made it to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup, and they will be looking to go one step further at the European Championship this summer.

UEFA has confirmed that squad lists have been expanded to allow 26 participants, with a number of major nations naming preliminary panels.

So when will Gareth Southgate announce his England squad, and who could make the cut? Goal takes a look.

Southgate announced his provisional 33-man Euro 2020 squad at 1pm (BST) on Tuesday May 25, and will only confirm his 26-man squad on June 1.

Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and Brighton defender Ben White were named in the larger squad, along the likes of England mainstays Harry Kane and Kyle Walker.

The deadline for all 24 competing teams at the competition is June 1, 10 days prior to the start of the tournament.

Usually, the limit for the squad is 23 players, but UEFA expanded the number of squad players 23 to 26. This was done as a preventative measure, in case players were unable to travel due to positive Covid-19 cases or quarantine rules.

Southgate had been facing a selection headache, with a huge talent pool available to the Three Lions boss.

Jordan Pickford has been selected to likely start as the Three Lions' goalkeeper, with Dean Henderson as back-up. Nick Pope has missed out due to injury.

Harry Maguire has been included despite injury concerns - with the Manchester United centre-back set to miss the Europa League final - and the likes of Kyle Walker, John Stones, Tyrone Mings, Luke Shaw and Ben Chilwell have also gotten the nod.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been included in the provisional squad, but ESPN have reported that the right-back will not be included in the final 26 after a turbulent 2020-21 campaign at Liverpool.

Indeed, he has struggled for form at times this season, causing Southgate to leave him out of the squad for the opening World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Jordan Henderson has been named despite an extended injury layoff, including the likes of Declan Rice and Mason Mount.

Harry Kane, meanwhile, will lead the attack, with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all providing support.

Jack Grealish has also been called up despite only returning to Aston Villa's starting XI for the final two games of the season due to injury, while Kalvin Phillips managed to shake off a shoulder injury in time to be selected.
