The Black Stars want to improve their chances of ruling Africa by beefing up their scouting department

Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah has confirmed reports about the imminent improvementÂ of his backroom staff ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Egypt.

Earlier this week, local reports said that three scouts including Asante Kotoko coach Charles 'CK' Akonnor, a video analyst and a physical trainer would be joining the technical team for the June 21 - July 19 gathering.

Former Jamaica and Leicester City winger Jamie Lawrence, Ghana's physical trainer at the last two Afcons had confirmed the rumours, saying he was in talks over the possibility of making a comeback for the third time as the Black Stars go searching for their first title in 37 years.

â€œThere will be some people to join the technical team," Appiah said as reported by Footballghana.

â€œI have not yet made up my mind on them but there will also be three scouts to join the team who will be monitoring opponents.

"Hopefully in a week or two things should be put in place.

â€œWe will also have a physical trainer and anÂ [video] analyst coach."

For the coming tournament, Ghana have been drawn against five-time champions Cameroon, Benin and Guinea-Bissau in the group stage.

The Black Stars will open their campaign against The Squirrels on June 25, four days before facing the Indomitable Lions.

Appiah's outfit will then wrap up their group stage against Guinea-Bissau on July 2.Â
