The 25-year-old sheds light on his maiden season in the Spanish topflight and his ambitions for the upcoming campaign

Deportivo Alaves attacker Patrick Twumasi is hoping to take his Spanish adventure up a notch next season after a challenging first year.

The Ghana winger, who joined El Glorioso from Kazakh side Astana last summer, is seemingly finding his feet towards the end of the season after a combination of injuries and loss of form greatly limited his opportunities at Estadio de Mendizorroza.

Five of his nine La Liga appearances so far for 10th-placed Alaves have come from the beginning of April.

“I think it's been a good season for myself and Alaves," Twumasi told Ghanasportsonline.

"We have been good and we hope we finish stronger.

“Personally, I am hoping for a better campaign next season and [hoping to] enjoy more playing time as well.

“Gradually I have been able to warm myself into the team and things are going on well.

"I will continue to work harder and help the team next season.”

Twumasi was beginning to play his way into becoming a regular member of the Black Stars before his move to Spain.

His struggles in La Liga this season, however, leaves him with nothing but an outside chance of making Ghana's squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations where the Black Stars have been drawn against Cameroon, Benin and Guinea-Bissau in Group F.

The 25-year-old has not played for Ghana since featuring in a 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Egypt in November 2017.
