Bandari FC blew their slim hopes of bagging their maiden Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title after playing out to a barren draw against Mathare United.

The visitors came into the match aware that they had to win the game against the 2008 champions to stand a chance of snatching the title from K'Ogalo.

Early signs were encouraging; Shaban Kenga went close in the 8th minute but his shot went inches wide.

Mathare United custodian had to be alert in order to deny Yema Mwana in the 45th minute after the Congolese found his way past the defenders.

After the break, it turned out to be one-way traffic as the Bernard Mwalala led side pushed for a goal. However, the coastal-based side could not find a way past the Slum Boys custodian Alan Owiny.

Bandari are currently second on the log with 59 points whileÂ Gor Mahia are leading the table on 69.

Meanwhile, SofapakaÂ were held to a goalless draw byÂ ChemelilÂ Sugar in another match.

Batoto ba MunguÂ came into the match with no chance of winning the league title, with a second-place finish the best they could hope for. For the Sugar Millers, maximum points were necessary in order to maintain their hopes of avoiding relegation.

Kepha AswaniÂ had a great opportunity to score in the 20th minute after Ugandan striker Umaru Kasumba played a good ball to John Avire who flicked it to Aswani, but the goalkeeper made an outstanding save.

The result leaves Chemelil with 31 points and with two must-win games against Mathare United and Sony Sugar coming up.
