AmaZulu striker Siyabonga Nomvethe has tipped Orlando Pirates midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch to walk away with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Player of the Season Award on Sunday.
The former Kaizer Chiefs hitman, however, says it is difficult to pick one player between Mamelodi Sundowns duo of Themba Zwane, Hlompho Kekana, yet he says Lorch has dedicated his soul for the Buccaneers.
“To be honest it’s difficult to choose one player that will win the award because all of them had brilliant seasons with their clubs,†Nomvethe told Isolezwe.
The former PSL Player of the Season was not ashamed to tip the Soweto giants attacker whom he reckons had a brilliant campaign for coach Milutin Sredojevic’s troops.
“But for me, I would choose Lorch because he has played exceptionally well and he dedicated himself to Pirates this season. He worked hard and never gave up, I think that is what sets him apart from Zwane and Kekana,†concluded ‘Bhele’.
Although Pirates came close to winning the PSL title losing to the Brazilians in the last match of the season, the former Chippa United star was instrumental for Pirates.
Lorch created, scored goals and led their attack as they also came close to winning the Telkom Knockout Cup, losing out to Baroka FC in the final.
Moreover, he led the 1995 African champions in the continent but their efforts were not enough to reach the group stages of this year’s Caf Champions League tournament.
Taking a glimpse of the 25-year-old’s overall performances this term, Lorch featured in 40 matches for the Soweto giants in all competitions and netted 15 goals as well as providing five assists.
However, having bagged a number of Man of the Match and Player of the Month accolades in the league, the Bloemfontein-born player stands a good chance to pip ‘Mshishi’ and ‘KK’ to the post.
In addition, Lorch has also been nominated for the Player’s Player of the Season and Midfielder of the Season awards where he competes against the Masandawana duo in Zwane and Kekana.
The glittering PSL awards ceremony will be staged at the Durban International Convention Centre on Sunday night after the Nedbank Cup final where Amakhosi are set to face TS Galaxy on Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
